  Had a very poor visit here. Their "speciality" sausage platter is just a bunch of sausages with tomato sauce, no better than the premium sausage you'd get from a supermarket (my German colleague was mortified!) . Bread and dips was not good. All three of us had poor quality steaks that were very overcooked (I ordered medium rare and got medium well). Coleslaw was frozen. I noticed the bill had a prawn topper that we didn't order or receive (the hostess gruffly removed this from the bill) but unfortunately it wasn't until after we left I noticed two XXXX Golds on the bill that we didn't order or receive. The two people I was with also received and sent back two undrinkable glasses of wine (they had already had a glass each of the same wine which was perfectly fine).
  
  It was a game night so I could make a few allowances but it appears they intentionally added unordered items to our bill and the food was much poorer than it has been in the past on game nights. Surely if a prawn topper was accidentally added to our bill then it would have come out with the meal from the kitchen?? Caxton used to be a great alternative to all the woeful supermarket pubs but I fear it is now no better.
